City-Focused 

City Light seeks to be a ministry for the City within Downtown Los Angeles. Downtown is in many ways the financial and cultural center of Los Angeles. As people continue to move into Downtown, it is also quickly becoming a residential center as well. We believe if the financial and cultural center of a city is impacted with the gospel, that Downtown can also be the spiritual center of the city. We believe that by focusing on the center of the city, we can bring transformation to the entire city of Los Angeles.

City Light therefore seeks to focus upon the needs of the city. We will be a people who pray for the politics and problems of city life. We will seek to build relationships with organizations and representatives within the city. We will seek the comprehensive renewal of the city - spiritually, physically, politically, and culturally. At City Light our mission is not a better church but a better city. We will use our resources to build the city not our own reputation.

Gospel-Centered

We believe that the key to genuine life and city transformation lies in the power of the gospel. Paul writes in Romans 1:16, "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes." Genuine change is therefore not political, ethical, or psychological. Genuine change does not come by better leaders, better laws, or better wisdom. It can only be achieved through the gospel of God's grace.

City Light desires to effect change through the power of the Gospel. Many people are motivated by guilt induced legalism instead of the transforming power of grace. We desire to be a ministry that changes lives through the transforming ministry of God's free gift of grace. We will let people come to church to rest not to work; People will feel free and liberated not constrained by outward forms of religion.

A Missions Movement

City Light desires not only to be a church but a missional movement. We believe that church planting is the way to the renewal of the city and the world. We desire to raise up new church planters for the city and new missions workers for the world. We will be an outward faced church that seeks to grow the kingdom of God and not merely our own ministry.

A Wounded Community

In an increasingly disconnected world, we desire to be a place of authentic community. We reject the notion that the church is filled with perfect people. We will seek to establish an open, vulnerable, and transparent community of people who are struggling together to grow into Christ-likeness. The key to our community will be the small groups which are places of prayer, support, and transformation. We will only change the city face to face and shoulder to shoulder.
